I spent 4 days in Zagreb (pronounced Zah-grib), the capital of Croatia. I had not heard of this city before but it was a better transportation option for getting to the Croatian cities I wanted to visit (Split and Dubrovnik).
I stayed at the Canopy by Hilton for 2 days before heading to Split, and stayed at the DoubleTree before leaving Croatia. I couldn’t seem to get a good flight out of Split or Dubrovnik so Zagreb was my entry and exit point.
From the hotel, I walked about 20 minutes to the Old Town area. Along the way I saw several historic buildings and crossed through a park, which was a welcome relief from the sun and heat. Once reaching the Old Town, I realized that in order to see anything I had to go up! Just when you think you’ve reached the last hill you see people coming from somewhere else. Eventually I reached the top and was rewarded by the spectacular views. The walk back down the hills was much easier but the heat was not.
I didn’t try any unique foods while there but I did enjoy the fish & chips at the hotel… very good!
