Dubrovnik… my new vacation spot!!! My stay in Dubrovnik was for 3 days while I took a break from the Airbnb in Split (I returned there after Dubrovnik).
I stayed at the Sheraton Dubrovnik Riviera Hotel and wished I had booked more days. I immediately felt like I was on vacation. Even though I’ve technically been on vacation traveling through Europe, this place reminds me of the resorts I would book for vacation. Starting from the lobby that had views of the massive pool area, to my room with floor to ceiling windows leading to a balcony (every room had a balcony). There was a bar and lounge area you between the pool and the beach. The beach had a few shops and about a 2 minute walk were the ferry boats (2 different companies). I took the ferry to the Old Town and the area where you get off is super crowded with people trying to catch ferries back to their areas. There were so many different ferry companies in this area, coming and going. You had to make sure to get on the right ferry (my ferry was named Arianna).
This was one of the largest Old Town areas I’ve seen throughout my travels through Europe. I’m sure there was much that I missed because I turned right, instead of left. There were several different alleyways to take. I climbed a lot of stairs that day. At one point I began to see souvenir shops with Game of Thrones stuff. I then remembered that the some of the trilogy was filmed there. I walked through the castle area but since I had never watch Game of Thrones, I wasn’t excited as others were.
Once walking through that area I was able to get on a sightseeing bus. Riding these hop on/off buses is a great way to see the city and hear about the history. However, this was one of the scariest rides I’ve ever taken. It wasn’t because of the driver, it was the same when I rode the Flexbus from Split to Dubrovnik. The bus goes up the mountains and it seems like they are hugging the curbs but I know that’s not what’s actually happening. But looking out the window you see the city or just a big drop cliff. I was feeling like the bus would tip over and we would go tumbling down. The Flexbus ride was so scary I was trying to find a different mode of transportation when time to leave and head back to Split. And now here I am again riding a bus up a mountain! Once we were back on the normal roads I felt better and actually glad I went because I was able to take some good pictures to look back on later.
My time in Dubrovnik was a relaxing time (aside from the bus). The weather was great, not hot like Split or Zagreb.
In my mind, I’ve already planned my next visit.
