I spent 8 days in Vienna and it wasn’t enough time. Vienna is one of those cities where you can walk in any direction and run into something visually gratifying. There are so many old and beautiful buildings, BIG buildings and massive church buildings. The Museum District had some of the largest museums.
I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel near the Downtown area. It was centrally located for walking. There was a park across the street where I cut through to get to the tram or walk a few miles to City Center and Old Town. The park had beautiful scenery with several statures. People would be sitting on benches having lunch or laying out on the grass enjoying the sun. I occasionally sat on a bench to enjoy the views.
I took a day-trip tour to Salzburg which is the birth home of Mozart (see pic below of his home). Salzburg was also the place where Sound of Music filmed some of their scenes. One of the ladies on the tour was so excited (like a Kid on Christmas morning) that she couldn’t contain herself. She began to sing the ‘do-re-mi’ song… the entire song! She told us that she sings in her church choir, as if to say that’s why I sound so good… nah, LOL Some of the grounds in Vienna and Salzburg had the shape of musical notes in honor of Mozart.
The ride to Salzburg was a bit too long. At the time of booking, I didn’t know the ride would be was almost 4 hours. And that the tour guide would talk on and on and on!!!! Usually when you have a long drive, the tour guide will take a break and start again once you arrive. This guy just wouldn’t stop. On the way back I put in my headsets and listened to music. There couldn’t possibly be anything else he needed to say about Austria.
