My time in Canada was spent visiting Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City. Of course each city was different in so many ways. For instance, Toronto had so many tall buildings and a lot of tall apartment buildings. I’ve seen tall buildings in New York but there was something different in Toronto; maybe it was seeing so many together. Even the view from the plane coming into the city shows the clusters of tall buildings protruding out from all others.
My hotel (One King West Hotel & Residence) was located downtown. The hotel seemed to be the spot where people came by after work for drinks or a meal. I enjoyed having a kitchenette in the room; however, that was the only benefit. My room was located in the Historic building which I later found out was blocked from seeing the outside world by the hotel’s Tower building that had 42 floors and an overhang. Because of the overhang, I didn’t know if it was day or night, cloudy or sunny. At first, I used the weather app until I realized that it wasn’t always accurate. I just decided that I was going out no matter the weather. Take an umbrella and keep it going. I was able to see a lot of city by walking and through tours. One stop was the St. Lawrence Market that had everything from fresh produce, meet, cheese, and of course baked goods. They also had several eateries to choose from. I ate at Buster’s Sea Cove. I’ll also Lee Chen Asian Bistro for some good Pad Thai (I love some spicy pad Thai).
On to Montreal, a place I’ve always wanted visit simple because they spoke French. I will say, I was a bit surprised because the city I had envisioned was not the same as the city I visited. It may have been more about where my hotel was located… in the heart of Chinatown. I tried to locate another hotel but realized I would lose the point in which I booked the stay. The hotel itself wasn’t so bad, just needed some updating. Turns out there was some good that came out of this location. I like Chinese food and just up the street was this beautiful church (Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal) and a little further was Old Montreal. The area had several streets lined with shops and eateries. I took my time strolling through the area and having a bite to eat.
While in Montreal, I took a day tour to Quebec City, which was about a 2.5 hour bus ride. We made a stop at Montmorency Falls and then on to Old Town Quebec. The Falls was a nice sight since I’ve never been to Niagara Falls. The guide mentioned that Montmorency is higher than Niagara but not as well known. And the Old Town was nice to walk through. I broke off from the group when my stomach couldn’t take it any longer. I found a nice spot to sit outside and people watch.
My time in Canada was enjoyable. And now that I’ve been to more than one city in Canada (Vancouver 2006), I favor Vancouver more.
Send me a note and let me know which is your favorite city in Canada.
