I spent 5 days in Stockholm and it wasn’t enough. This city is a photographer’s dream. There were so many beautiful older buildings. I can look at these all day.
I stayed at the Story Hotel (Hyatt brand) which was located in the Shopping District. The hotel room was a bit small by American standards but I’m getting used to the European room size. The hotel offered free breakfast that was worth me getting dressed for early. On my first full day I walked to the city center to start a sightseeing bus and cruise tour. After the tours, I spent time walking through the streets finding more gems. One day I walked to the Nobel Prize Museum to check it out but I especially wanted to see the information on President Obama and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unfortunately, my excitement faded as I found out that they are highlighted in the museum in Oslo, Norway where they have the actual ceremonies. I was able to take a picture of the chair that President Obama signed (the underside of the seat… pic below). On one day while walking I ran into an outdoor festival and spent some time there. That’s what’s great about these walkable cities, you can turn in so many directions and find hidden gems or even a festival.
I have to mention the food. Since traveling in Europe I have been having a hard time finding vegetables. Although I don’t normally seek out veggies I just know it’s not good to go for a long period of time without any. They have veggies cause I see them in their grocery stores, but none seem to be included with the meals. At least, not the meals that I had. I have discovered that french fries are served with just about everything. You’ll walk by a fine dining and sure enough there will be a basket of fries with their meal. And they eat them with a dallop of mayo!!!!! Fries with mayo is their thing. They even have eateries devoted to selling nothing but fries. But let me say that I’m not complaining cause fries are one of my favorite, so I’ve been enjoying them… but with ketchup. I have managed to get a salad here and there.
Even with the elusive veggies, Stockholm is now one of my favorite cities.
