I did a day trip to York and Manchester while I was in London.
YORK: The train ride to York was about 2 hours. When I arrived I immediately saw the hop on/off bus but had to come back to this later. Lunch was on my mind.
While walking around a bit I ran into a restaurant called the Fat Hippo. I was thinking, with a name like this they have got to have some good food. And they did not disappoint. I had one of the best hamburgers while being in Europe (2nd best). Most times the burger meat is unrecognizable and tastes nothing like the ground beef we have in the States. But I’ve come to terms with knowing the meat is not ground beef, but I’ve learned to read the description on the menu a little more, The description for a hamburger must at least state it is beef. I’ve seen some that have no description, and the texture of the meat was awful! It’s better to stick with shrimp, salmon and chicken.
MANCHESTER: This was also about a 2 hour train ride. I was excited to go to Manchester. I have been a fan of the Manchester City football (soccer) team and was hoping to get team sweat shirt. Actually, I have a girl crush on the coach, Pep Guardiola. I used to watch a show called ‘All or Nothing’, which highlighted sports teams. This one year they highlighted Manchester City and my love affair with the team began. They showed this feisty and sexy Italian man talking to the team and I was drawn in. I still watch them play every now and then.
I was a bit surprised when I got to Manchester because Google had indicated that it was an industrial city. My view of that is just a lot of smoke stacks and mediocre residential living. The city was nothing like this. It was actually a really nice and vibrant city. I got a chance to walk around and also ride the hop on/off tour bus. I enjoyed my day there.
