I spent 5 days in Durres, Albania at the Adriatik Hotel, which is considered to be a 5-star hotel under the Best Western Premium Collection. The guest services attendant gave me a tour of the hotel and told me that it used to be that only dignitaries were allowed to stay at the hotel, but it’s now opened to everyone.

The backside of the hotel opens up to a private sandy beach on the Adriatic Sea. In between the hotel’s private beach area and the public beach is a walking pathway (padded pathway and cemented). My room faced the beach and was a great spot for people watching and hearing the waves crashing at night with the windows open (perfect sounds for sleeping).

I decided to spend my time in, and around the hotel. The city didn’t offer much by way of sightseeing. Instead, I walked along the pathways where there were several restaurants, shops, and hotels. Most days I walked about 2 miles before heading back  (not sure how far the pathway goes). I stopped for lunch at a couple restaurants on the the path, but most meals were eaten at the hotel.

I also took advantage of this time to catch-up on this website. I’ve been behind on posting at least 3 countries. Glady, I am now up-to-date.

I have few pictures of this visit. There’s one of a meal I had at the hotel, risotto with shrimp and fruit. I’ve had risotto a couple of times before (the best ever had was in Paris), but never has it been a purple-ish color and it also didn’t include fruit. I had to convince myself to at least try it before sending it back. To my surprise, It was good. The fruit were little bitty balls of blueberry and raspberry., which gave it a slight sweet taste.

If you’re in Albania visiting Tirana, it’s worth a 45 minute Uber ride to the beach in Durres.
